Electricity Grid Support

Great Britain deliberately disconnected or curtailed 4.6 terawatt hours of electricity generation from the grid in the first half of 2025. Generators were compensated with over £150m in direct payments (4).

Our on-site electrolysers are designed to optimise efficiency against variable wind or solar power, so they can capture otherwise wasted energy. Curtailed wind or solar power can be put to good use generating hydrogen for later fast response, flexible, dispatchable power to grid via a fuel-cell. Long duration hydrogen storage outlasts batteries, even offering inter-seasonal capability for mission-critical electricity grid frequency regulation, voltage support and peak shaving applications. Asset owners could even choose to sell the hydrogen locally at premium prices.
