The untapped potential of renewable power
A wasted opportunity? You might have spotted another story in @ The Times about the untapped potential of renewable power.
Constrained infrastructure means the UK is now paying £1.5bln more for our electricity because wind farms are being paid to turn off. Grid upgrades are a vital part of the solution, but there’s an overlooked piece of the puzzle too: hydrogen.
@ CPH2’s membrane-free technology is uniquely able to capture otherwise wasted wind power without loss of efficiency as the wind speed varies, generating green hydrogen. Essentially produced for free, the hydrogen can be stored for long-duration back-up power or sold to transport, pharmaceutical and even semiconductor applications, given its very high purity.
Tackling wind curtailment in this way can help to reduce consumer energy bills, limit reliance on polluting fossil fuels and prevent the UK from wasting precious energy in a time of increasing demand.
